Only the customizable parts of KonaKart are open source. These include the Struts action classes, the JSP s, the payment modules, order total modules and the shipping modules. They are shipped under the GNU Lesser General Public License.
The remaining components of KonaKart are free, but not open source.
How do we make money
KonaKart is aimed at mid-sized / large customers who will most probably require support and maintenance contracts. Our aim is to provide (and to help others to provide) services around KonaKart.
We will also sell the source code of the KonaKart engines to companies who feel that they need the security of owning the source code.
How much does KonaKart cost
Our aim is to make KonaKart a popular alternative solution to the current Java based eCommerce solutions available today. In order to achieve this, we are not charging for the software and we provide source code for all of the areas that customers may want to customize. These include the Struts action classes, the JSP s, the payment modules, order total modules and the shipping modules. The source code is provided under the GNU Lesser General Public License. We welcome contributions from the KonaKart community to add to these examples.
If requested, we will also sell or provide an escrow service for the source code of the KonaKart engines.
